On the founding and running of One Korea Good Neighbours

To our IDRN and CDP members,

Since 2012 we have delivered disaster response (IDRN) and community development (CDP) training to more than 1,500 members in Korea and abroad, in preparation for reunification. So that relief work can be carried out safely and lawfully when a major disaster strikes at home or overseas — or if a sudden change in North Korea opens its doors — we have registered One Korea Good Neighbours as an NGO under the Ministry of Unification and incorporated it. Members trained through IDRN and CDP can now act effectively and practically alongside the organisation, at the moment it is needed.

When the day comes that North Korea opens, what will be needed is trained specialists able to meet the needs of people there, together with warehousing to stockpile relief supplies — food, clothing, shelter, medicine and fuel — and the transport to move them. One Korea Good Neighbours will plan and carry this work forward as a whole.

IDRN and CDP members who wish to take part in rescue and relief work can therefore register as members of the organisation.

From here on, One Korea Good Neighbours intends to build a practical, fast-moving disaster mobilisation system around its registered members.
