Russian ambassador to North Korea: “Rajin–Khasan coal shipments have passed two million tonnes”
Shipments of Russian coal over the cross-border railway linking Rajin in North Korea with Khasan in Russia have passed two million tonnes for the first time.
According to the Russian embassy in Pyongyang, Ambassador Alexander Matsegora said on 17 October that exchanges with North Korea in culture, sport, youth and education can continue alongside the implementation of the UN resolutions, as reported by Radio Free Asia. Alexander Galushka, Russia’s minister for the development of the Far East, also said on the 17th that coal shipments over the Rajin–Khasan railway had passed two million tonnes for the first time this year.
The Russian side expects to move a further 400,000 tonnes or so by the end of the year.
Ambassador Matsegora indicated in particular that the Rajin–Khasan project, a flagship of economic cooperation between Russia and North Korea, would continue.
