The 2023 earthquake in Türkiye

Field Updates

The earthquake zone in Türkiye and Syria

The magnitude 7.5 earthquake that struck south-eastern Türkiye near the Syrian border at around 04:17 on 6 February 2023 has so far left some 3,500 dead or injured and around 25,500 people affected.

With snow and rain and bitter winter weather, many are outside and freezing. Many shops in the affected area have closed, so daily necessities cannot be bought and food is desperately needed. More than five thousand apartment blocks and other residential buildings have collapsed.

Everyone affected is sheltering temporarily in school buildings and public facilities, and a great deal is lacking. Most urgently, people are being left in unheated places in the cold, and drinking water and food are needed.

Churches in Türkiye in particular are being used as places to help those affected by the earthquake, and there is much they still need. We ask for your help. (Source: CTS Christian TV)
